(INTRO)

According to U.S. Census data, more than 41 million children ages five to 14 go "trick or treating" in the U.S. While it's a fun season for kids and adults alike, there are steps everyone should take to ensure it's also a safe one.

Sherri Boucher, from Party City of Atlanta, is joining Children's Healthcare of Atlanta to offer parents safety tips.

MAKE SURE COSTUMES FIT PROPERLY, INCLUDING MASKS, ENSURING THAT CHILDREN CAN SEE WELL OUT OF EYEHOLES. HEM SKIRTS AND PANTS SO THAT CHILDREN DON'T TRIP. AVOID COSTUMES WITH EXCESSIVE FLOWING FABRIC, LIKE CAPES OR SLEEVES THAT CAN BRUSH UP AGAINST A JACK-O-LANTERN OR OTHER OPEN FLAME. LASTLY, DON'T FORGET TO PROVIDE YOUR CHILDREN WITH FLASHLIGHTS, GLOW STICKS, FLASHING SAFETY REFLECTORS OR REFLECTIVE TAPE TO HELP ENSURE THEY CAN SEE AND BE SEEN.

Remind children not to eat candy until an adult has examined it. For more Halloween safety tips, visit www.partycityonline.com.
